Because I like gin a lot.

Gin and tonic
one part gin, 1-3 parts tonic water to taste. serve stirred in a highball glass, garnish with a citrus fruit (I prefer lime). We had these on my birthday. Also Amanda Walker bought me one in Idyllwild, hahaha.

White Lady
two parts gin, one part cointreau, one part lemon juice. shake with ice & serve in a martini glass with a sugared rim & a strip of lemon rind. (this is essentially a sidecar but with gin instead of brandy.) I had one yesterday after the opera & it was very yummy.

Gimlet
four parts gin, one part sweetened lime juice (traditionally, Rose's Lime Juice Cordial). serve straight or on the rocks in an old fashioned glass, garnish with lime. I haven't tried this but it sounds tasty.

on a related note, Gin Rickey
one part gin, one part lime juice. mix in a highball glass, serve on the rocks & top up with carbonated water.

Gin Fizz
3 parts gin, 2 parts lemon juice, with sugar & soda water. serve on the rocks in a highball glass. variations that interest me are the Diamond Fizz, with sparkling wine instead of soda water, and the Green Fizz, with a dash of creme de menthe.

Martini
yes, this was originally a gin drink. vodka martinis are more popular now, though, probably because vodka has a more neutral flavour so they can add other outlandish flavours to the drink. four parts gin, one (or less) part vermouth. stir with ice, strain into a martini glass, squeeze a lemon peel onto the drink or garnish with olives. or i guess cocktail onions but those are gross.

Negroni
one part gin, one part sweet red vermouth, one part bitter (usually campari). stir into an old fashioned glass over ice, garnish with orange peel.

Pink Gin
one part gin, chilled, served in a chilled cocktail glass coated with Angostura bitters. garnish with a shave of lemon peel.

Salty dog
two parts gin, five parts grapefruit juice. serve on the rocks in a salted glass.

London Mule
one part gin, one part lime juice, three parts ginger beer. serve on the rocks in a mug.

And on the subject of ginger beer, here's a non-gin drink courtesy of Sammy Wammy:
That's What She Said
one part spiced rum, two parts ginger beer, and a slice of lime. Serve on the rocks in... well, whatever you have to hand, but probably in a highball glass, properly. Squeeze the lime wedge and drop it in. we drank it through straws on New Year's and that made it even more awesome. He told us this was a variant of a drink made with ginger ale called a "Dark and Stormy," but the internet claims that the Dark and Stormy is indeed made with ginger beer? Whatever, That's What She Said is a much more fun name.

p.s. Watched the Grammys with Roomie & friends when I got home last night. I would totally have Thom Yorke's babies. All of Radiohead, really. (Even if they did use That Other School's marching band in the awards show.) Katy Perry... not so much. I mean... the woman is NOT a good performer. I would have maybe been okay with it if her show were sexy in any way but no, it was not. It was just Bad. Sad times, Katy Perry. But also, Justin Timberlake, for all I disparaged him in middle school and high school, is good at what he does and I respect that. Roomie says, "I would let him have my babies," and I am inclined to agree.
