The World Turing Petition seeks an apology from the British government for its treatment of brilliant mathematician
Alan Turing, who invented the machine that broke Enigma, a code used by the Germans in WWII. He was convicted of gross indecency in 1952, for having a homosexual relationship, and forced to undergo "chemical castration" -- injections of estrogen which were supposed to negate his sexual urges. Two years later, he commited suicide.
