anyway. on friday i went to two recitals (both senior recitals for two composition majors each... all pretty good, though i was partial to tyler mazaika's stuff), and before the first one a girl (well, young woman) asked me if there was an event and if it was open to the public. afterwards, we ran into each other again and started talking. her name is paddy (fully padida, i think, but that apparently gives some people trouble), and she's from germany (i believe her background is persian, because she was saying how she plays piano & a persian instrument...), though she goes to a community college in irvine, and she was visiting for the day because she plans to transfer to SMC and then UCLA. she spent the morning talking to people and figuring stuff out in the enrollment offices and stuff, and she was just really amazed. she's studying biology now, but doesn't like it that much -- wants to do languages and/or psychology -- and everyone whe met had something in common with her. she just stopped at schoenberg because she happened to be nearby, and she likes music... she didn't know what a bassoon was until i called it a fagott and it was really fun to talk to her. we exchanged phone numbers and i gave her my e-mail. i hope i'll see her around next year, or the year after.
& then tonight i had a really great & encouraging conversation with icka. whee! & i also talked to kat and it was good.
(i had a restful weekend.)
