oggi fa caldo!
Jun. 4th, 2006 12:56 amyay. italian.
so i'm really enjoying myself lately, and just now i stopped to wonder -- should I be? I mean, my first final is on saturday, i have a paper, a jury, oral exams, and three concerts in the immediate future (not to mention the ones i plan to attend), and at some point i need to get my shit together for the summer and then next fall -- and oh yeah, pack up and move out of my dorm room... and somehow make/rediscover a reed that plays well enough for said jury and concerts (the first of which is on monday. what?)...
and yet, i am relaxed, i am having a blast, i am totally not feeling the urgency of Having Shit To Do Very Soon. I am Coasting. It feels great.

so today. brunched with Zach, Robert, and Denexxel, hung out with z & watched QAF, went to schoenberg and procrastinated and listened to people play jury pieces and eventually, when i finally got my horn out and decided i could no longer postpone playing, i mostly read old solos & stuff... only played my jury piece a little bit at the end, and not even the whole thing. yeah... i'm supposed to rehearse with my pianist on wednesday afternoon? my jury is on thursday. it's weird, though. charlie has been so agreeable lately.... i mean. i kind of didn't practise at all last week, but my lesson on thursday was really pleasant. we worked on my jury piece, and finished early, and he kind of waved off etudes -- didn't care at all, really, since juries are more important to worry about -- and said that he feels confident that i'll be all right for the jury... decided not to even have a reed assignment or a written test this quarter. i got out a full fifteen or twenty minutes early, and for once i didn't feel really crappy about it, since it was a good lesson. it's madness.
anyway. after that, went to amy's recital. (amy is the sole grad student in the studio -- she's getting her doctorate. almost finished, too; she's doing one more quarter, just to take care of all her thesis stuff.) and. it was fantastic. she's so good. after that, went out with zach and robert -- although not before robert found a four-foot python in his room. it caused something of a stir. evidently belongs to one of his suitemates. was rather a well-behaved python, though it was startled, and so hid in a box under robert's bed and it took them a while to find it again... all of the CSO's on duty came up to hedrick to see the snake. it was kind of a darling... very sweet snake. going out was v. entertaining as well.
anyway. um.
yeah.
my englishclass seminar hour of fun & talking is going to have a pizza party like when we were in elementary school... except we're procuring the food ourselves instead of it mystically appearing courtesy of the teacher. i have volunteered for chips. yay! pretending like we're little kids! honestly, this has been such a great class. we read interesting things, and then talk about tangential things like the nature of pleasure, and the difference between children and adults, and The Giving Tree. I'm going to miss it a lot. (forunately, I will still have dinosaur comics.) um, anyway, i should sleep or something.... probably....
oh hey, i have homework this weekend, don't i? that's what tomorrow is for, i suppose. and maybe laundry as well, since i went to the trouble of buying detergent (as i had run out).

Someone at Poly: When do you guys finish school? And do you think I could convince Osman or Stevens to let me check out a sousaphone for (at least part of) the summer? Because the cases UCLA has are monstrously huge, and there is no conceivable way that i would be able to take the one they're letting me use now home. seriously. monstrous. and i need to learn how to play the thing, so they'll let me march.... hmmmmmm...
